SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco District Attorney’s office says it is “reviewing and investigating” the case of a man pictured in YouTube videos accosting people at BART’s 16th and Mission station.
Prosecutors had initially dismissed all criminal charges in the case of 24-year old Yeiner Perez.
Police say cell phone video shows 24-year old Yeiner Perez running around the station naked with an erect penis attempting to attack women leaving the secure area.
The first victim took refuge inside the ticket agent’s booth while other witnesses tried to subdue Perez. The suspect showed off a variety of acrobatic moves as he tried to get to his intended victims, witnesses say.
“We were really looking for some help to be honest,” BART rider Bianca Starr tells KRON 4’s J.R. Stone. “We felt helpless. He started making animal sounds. He was like ‘ooh ooh, aah aah.’ No one wanted to cross over to that side where you get your ticket where he was because we had that barrier to protect us. He jumped over it clearly and was able to cause chaos on that side as well.”
Eventually Perez was taken into custody where he received medical treatments before he was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Federal authorities say he could face deportation because of the outburst.
Perez was released from custody pending a deportation hearing.
“Following his arrest by local authorities, Jeiner Albert Perez Garizabalo was remanded to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody on May 14 and has been placed in deportation proceedings,” Federal officials say in a written statement. “Pending a decision in his immigration case, Mr. Perez is required report to ICE on a regular basis to ensure he is complying with the terms of his release.”
Police say they don’t have a motive for the incident.
Prosecutors have not said when they might make a decision on whether to pursue criminal charges in the incident.
