VATICAN (KRON) — The Vatican is scrambling to recall thousands of medals that misspell the name of Jesus.
The 6,000 medals were minted to celebrate the elevation of Francis to the papacy.
The coin was supposed to read in Latin “VIDIT ERGO JESUS PUBLICANUM ET QUIA MISERANDO ATQUE ELIGENDO VIDIT, AIT ILLI SEQUERE ME” but it spelled Jesus as “Lesus.”
That’s roughly translated as “Jesus therefore sees the tax collector, and since he sees by having mercy and by choosing, he says to him, ‘follow me.'”
The phrase is reportedly what inspired Francis to first become a priest.
Coin collectors say the value of the medallions is likely to soar.
