OAKLAND (KRON) — Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana says he hopes to enter the studio in the next month or two with his original Blues Band including percussionist Marcus Malone now that KRON 4’s Stanley Roberts has reunited the two musicians.
In a live interview Sunday on CNN, Santana and Stanley both talked about the series of events that led to the reunion between the Grammy Award winner and the former bandmate who ended up living in a camper in East Oakland. It started with a “People Behaving Badly” segment on illegal dumping in Oakland where Malone told Stanley that he used to play with the Santana Blues band. Then Friday, Stanley was along as Carlos and Marcus “The Magnificent” hugged for the first time in decades.

Sunday on CNN, Santana says he’s ready to help his former bandmate get back on his feet.
“I want to offer him a place to stay in an apartment, get him some clothes, and just get him out of the street,” Santana said.
Beyond that, Carlos says he wants to bring the original Santana Blues Band members, including Marcus together to make music.
“I want to offer my brother Marcus Malone an opportunity to record on the next album with the original band, with Greg Rolie,” Santana says. ” We wrote a song for him called ‘Magnificent Marcus Malone.’ We want him to play on it and we’re going to start, Lord willing, in January or February. So I would like to get him some congas so he can get his hands hard again because he hasn’t been playing the congas in a while.”
Santana says he offers his “heart’s gratitude” to Stanley for starting the process that led to the reunion.
“I’ve been at KRON 4 a long time,” Stanley said. “This is the biggest story I’ve come across. It all happened by happenstance, being at the right place at the right time. I firmly believe there is a reason for everything and I want to see Marcus perform with the band again.”
Santana, who now divides his time before his home in exclusive Tiberon and his show in Las Vegas, says he’s amazed at the number of people who are getting an emotional benefit from this reunion.
“It’s gone viral. It’s in India, it’s in Malaysia, and people are crying. They don’t mind crying tears of gratitude and joy that two brothers can get back together. We all have people in our family who get misplaced, not lost but misplaced. A lot of people all over the world are connecting with this story. They in return will do something for someone that will bless them. This course that you started, Stanley, with Marcus it’s on due course for us now to have a divine story, a divine redemption. We will offer him whatever we can offer him to get back on his feet with elegance and grace to live a happy life.”
