SALINAS (BCN) — A 19-year-old woman who was struck by a car while walking in a Salinas crosswalk earlier this month died of her injuries Wednesday, police said today.
At about 7 p.m. on Dec. 14, Daisy Ramirez Martinez was walking east in the crosswalk on North Main Street at Navajo Drive near the Alvin Square Shopping Center, police said.
She made it across the southbound lanes of North Main but as she stepped into the first northbound lane, a 2000 Toyota Camry driven by 46-year-old Marie Arcega struck her, police said.
Martinez, a Salinas resident, was unable to recover from her injuries and died Wednesday, police said.
Police said Martinez’s death marked Salinas’ 12th traffic fatality this year. Seven of those who died were pedestrians.
