Driver Arrested After Chase With Help Of K-9 Unit

Lack of Rain Prompts Marin to Begin Using Water from Reserve Reservoir

RICHMOND (BCN) — Police arrested a man who allegedly led officers on a chase in a stolen car in Richmond early this morning.

Around 1:45 a.m., officers tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation near the intersection of Barrett Avenue and Marina Way, according to Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov.

Instead of yielding, the driver sped away from police, who learned that the car had been reported stolen. The driver then led police on a chase that ended when he crashed into a fence near Interstate Highway 80, Abetkov said.

The man got out of the car, ran and hid underneath some cars in the area, refusing officers’ commands to surrender, police said.

Officers were eventually able to apprehend the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Kharl Stuart, with the help of a police K-9, the sergeant said.

He was arrested on suspicion of car theft and evading police and taken to county jail.
