LOS GATOS — Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police are trying to locate a man who punched a female in the face in an unprovoked attack in the parking lot of a Los Gatos strip mall on Monday.

At 4:31 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of an assault in the Blossom Hill Square Shopping Center at 14000 Blossom Hill Road, according to police.

Witnesses told police that a man approached the female victim and struck her in the face with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground, police said. The suspect then fled east toward Harwood Road.

Emergency medical personnel treated the woman at the scene, police said.

The suspect is described as black, in his early- to mid-20s, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall with a slender build and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap worn backward, police said.

The incident remains under investigation and the motive for the attack is still unclear, police said.
