NASHVILLE, Tenn (KRON) — An out of work opera performer is suing her doctor because she says she can no longer sing without passing gas.
Amy Herbst sang for the Nashville Opera before recently giving birth to a healthy baby.
During the childbirth, Herbst’s doctors performed an episiotomy which cuts some tissue to help let the baby’s delivery go smoother.
Although the tear was eventually repaired, the lawsuit says Herbst “complained she could feel gas coming out of her vagina and was also experiencing difficulty controlling bowel movements.”
A nurse says the tear never properly healed. Doctors say even reconstructive surgery may not fix the problem.
The suit says, “as a result of her incontinence and excessive flatulence, Herbst has been unable to work as a professional opera singer.”
