WASHINGTON D.C. (KRON) — Now there’s scientific evidence to support what you’ve long suspected, that people who talk on cell phones in public are jerks.
Researchers in a study posted on a National Institutes of Health web site tested 62 people who were yakking on the phone in public by having someone wearing leg braces drop a stack of magazines while walking nearby.
Only nine percent of the cell phone talkers stopped their conversation to offer to help that person. 72% of people who weren’t on the phone intervened to help.
An earlier study suggested it’s more distracting to overhear someone else’s one-sided cell phone conversation than to hear two people talking in real life.
