BERKELEY (KRON) — A convicted sex offender is facing new felony charges after allegedly trying to snatch a child from her father’s arms.
U.C. Berkeley police officers say they saw the family in a crosswalk on Barrow Lane on Saturday the 19th when 55-year old Lew Olive approached and tried to talk with the child. The officers say the family tried to get away from Olive by crossing Bancroft but saw Olive follow and grab the arms of both the father and child to separate them. The force of the pulling allegedly lifted the little girl two to three feet off the ground.
The campus police officers say they intervened and ordered Olive to release the child. He did but then allegedly resisted arrest.
After he was taken into custody, police say they discovered Olive is a registered sex offender. He’s been charged with felony annoying and molesting a child.
The child and her father were not injured.
