SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — At least he got a selfie with Michael Jordan.
The trade off is the lambasting Ben Haggerty — also known by his stage name Macklemore — received when he posted an Instagram photo with a caption announcing the release of his salmon-colored Air Jordans.
“I’m proud to announce the unveiling of my “Northwest King Salmon” Melo’s. Courtesy of @jumpman23 and myself. Never dreamed I’d have an opportunity like this,” the Seattle-native said in his caption.
The Grammy award-winning rapper teamed up with the six-time NBA champ to design the shoe which he debuted at the Jordan Brand Classic at the Baclays Center in Brooklyn this past weekend.
Reaction to the abomination was harsh and swift all over the web.
“Bro these are downright hideous,” commented jefferayy on Instagram.
“I don’t understand how you could write a song about consumerism and trash nike and Phil night and then go and do this. The words of your song are meaningless to me now,” replied carson_walter.
“This is a travesty RT @macklemore: I’m proud to announce the unveiling of my “Northwest King Salmon” Melo’s…,” said @Air_Max via Twitter.
Instagram user a__molli referenced one of the rapper’s hits when she commented, “I guess I will wait to get mine when they end up at my local #thriftShop #dissapointed”
Macklemore sparked social media controversy earlier this year when he posted a photo of a gold satin athletic jacket with the words “49ers Suck” on the back.
It’s not clear when the rapper’s custom kicks will be sold in stores.
