Long Beach Police Shoot, Kill Suspect After Car Chase

LONG BEACH – Authorities say Long Beach officers shot and killed a man who led sheriff’s deputies on a car chase after pulling out scissors during a struggle at a Target store in Compton on Sunday.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Megan Zabel says the suspect exited his car wielding a large wooden stick after the pursuit Sunday. He ran from sheriff’s deputies and encountered Long Beach officers, who opened fire, striking him. The Los Angeles Times reports the man died at a hospital. He has not been identified.

Sheriff’s officials say deputies were called after the man allegedly committed a crime at the Target store on South Alameda Street. He struggled with store security and deputies before running to his car and driving off.
