NYC to Retired Officers: Don’t Spend that Pension Payment

NEW YORK CITY (KRON) — About 31,000 retired New York City police officers and firefighters are getting a whole lot poorer Friday.

That’s because on average $9,600 is disappearing from their bank accounts on Friday.

City pension officials say they wrongly deposited nearly $300 million in the accounts of the retired city workers earlier this week. The deposits weren’t supposed to happen until December of this year.

One police officer says he got an e-mail Thursday urging him not to spend the money.

The New York City Comptroller’s office is apologizing for the mix-up.
