SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The owner of a series of street signs set up around San Francisco says he will spend the day changing their combination locks after someone changed one sign to read “City Closed – Too Damn Hot.”
Commuters driving on Van Ness and Green street Thursday morning saw the message instead of what should have been there, a notice about a street closure planned this weekend during the Bay to Breakers race.
“Someone obviously has our combination and played a little prank,” sign owner Alan Beck tells KRON 4’s Terisa Estacio. “We just have to change the combination on our locks is all but we’ve got a lot of them around the city so it’s going to be quite a chore.”
Beck says his company rents out the signs to the city of San Francisco. He’s not aware of any other signs that have been similarly changed but says he is spending the day changing all the combinations just to be sure.
San Francisco’s high temperatures reached 89 degrees Wednesday afternoon, three degrees higher than the record of 86 set in 2006.
