SAN JOSE (KRON) — Homicide detectives are looking for witnesses to help them solve San Jose’s 17th homicide of the year.
This latest shooting happened just after 11:00 p.m. Thursday on Gridley located between I-680 and Alum Rock Park.
The victim’s aunt tells KRON 4’s Mike Pelton the 25-year old man and his wife were returning home from the store when another car pulled alongside and someone inside the second car opened fire.
“He worked, he went to work,” the aunt, who asked not to be identified or her picture shown, tells Mike. “Sometimes when you’re growing up in these neighborhoods, you’re bound to know people or not know people, and stuff happens. I don’t have any words at this time for whoever and why they would do this.”
Investigators say an acquaintance drove the victim to the hospital. Doctors treated the victim for a single gunshot wound but the man died.
Police are searching the area around the shooting for forensic evidence and hoping to interview witnesses.
