OAKLAND (KRON) — The Freeway Service Patrol came to the rescue of a kitten Monday morning on Interstate 580 in Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to CHP officials, the kitten jumped into a wheel well of a car that was stopped in traffic this morning on I-580 at High Street in Oakland.

CHP Oakland posted the pictures of the rescue on Facebook earlier today.

The Freeway Service Patrol, a joint program between the CHP and Caltrans, rescued the little guy and a passing motorist adopted the kitten right on the spot, they said.

A few weeks ago, the CHP posted the now-viral photo of an officer rescuing a chihuahua from a median in the middle of I-680 in Walnut Creek.
