Toddler Who Drowned in Spa Identified

CUPERTINO — A boy just under 2 years old who drowned Sunday in a spa at a home in Cupertino has been identified, according to the Santa Clara County medical
examiner’s office.

Lukasz Zavislak, who was 23 months old and a resident of Cupertino, died accidentally due to fresh water drowning, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home in the 10000 block of Anson Avenue at about 4 p.m. Sunday on a report about the child, sheriff’s Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup said.

Paramedics attempted to save the infant but he was pronounced dead at a hospital, Stenderup said.

Sheriff’s deputies are in the process of interviewing witnesses to Lukasz’s drowning, Stenderup said.

Deputies so far know that there were adults home at the time of the drowning but “we don’t know if both parents were home,” Stenderup said.

“We’re trying to find out how it all happened,” he said.
