VIDEO: Woman Struck And Killed By Amtrak Train Is Identified

Brittney-Silva

SAN LEANDRO (KRON and wire reports) — A friends and family are gathering at the tracks to remember the teen who was struck and killed Monday evening by an Amtrak train.

Police identified the victim of the 5:55 p.m. collision as Brittney Silva of San Leandro.

Police said officers found Silva, who already was dead, about fifty yards south of the intersection of Hesperian Boulevard and Springlake Drive.

The train stopped on the tracks a few hundred yards south of the intersection following the collision, according to police.

Police said witnesses told investigators that Silva was walking southbound along the east sidewalk of Hesperian Boulevard wearing “earbud” style headphones and as the train approached the intersection one of the witnesses yelled at her to try to warn her of the approaching train.

However, Silva didn’t respond to the witness, possibly because she didn’t hear him, according to police.

Silva’s family told KRON 4 that the girl was a straight A student and was excited about entering college next fall. Her mom talked about how earlier in the day, Silva received her first bank account and debit card.

Witnesses told police that the railroad’s crossing arms were functioning properly at the time of the collision.
