SAN RAFAEL — The first San Rafael DUI checkpoint of the summer resulted in two arrests and a variety of citations Friday night, according to police.
Between 6 and 11 p.m. on Friday San Rafael police conducted the DUI checkpoint at the intersection of East Francisco Boulevard and Morphew Street. During that time, police say 769 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.
Police issued four field sobriety checks, which resulted in two arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol.
In addition to the two arrests, police issued four traffic violations and 16 citations to unlicensed drivers. They also towed four vehicles during the operation.
A male driver traveling through the checkpoint with a female passenger was also stopped and found to have an outstanding warrant from San Mateo County for a prior drunk driving arrest, according to police.
Checkpoints, strike teams and other enforcement activities will take place throughout the summer in San Rafael to promote public safety, police said.
