SANTA ROSA (KRON) — At least two people are wounded after a shooting during an attempted robbery at a Santa Rosa jewelry store while the manhunt for a possibly wounded second suspect has been called off for now.

Police say they showed up at the Bennett Valley Jewelers at about 1:40 Thursday afternoon to find two people, one the store’s proprietor, suffering gunshot wounds.

The store employee is expected to recover but the second man, identified as one of the two robbers is hospitalized with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses say they saw a third man drive away in a red Ford Mustang. Police found the car not far away but there was no sign of the driver. The car itself was reported stolen recently from Livermore.

Police officers, detectives, canine units and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s department helicopter were all involved in the search for the second robber. Police say the man should be considered armed and dangerous. Officers describe him as having a large build, last seen wearing a white and blue plaid shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. By about 5:30 p.m., authorities announced they had called off the search for the second man.
