SANTA CLARA (KRON) — A 15-year old boy is now in custody after social media users helped Santa Clara police identify the person seen robbing a young child of his bicycle.
Authorities posted surveillance video taken before and during the alleged robbery and posted it to YouTube and other social media outlets.
“This arrest is a result of numerous tips that Detectives received from the posting of the surveillance video on Facebook,” Santa Clara police said in a written statement. “The tips were pouring in and Detectives were following each lead. Our social media community deserves a great deal of THANKS for getting involved by sharing the surveillance video – Remember ‘See something say something.'”
Investigator say the 15-year old confronted the child last week in front of Washington Elementary School and threatened to stab him with a knife if the victim didn’t hand over the bicycle.
Police say in addition to arresting the teen, they have recovered the stolen bicycle.
