SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — There are new signs posted around BART’s Powell Street Station says it is unlawful to obstruct evacuation routes with in a transit station.
Basically, every hallway in any BART station is an evacuation route.
Federal law requires transit stations to be able to evacuate people in a few minutes.
In case of an emergency, you have to be able to pack up your belongings and get the heck out of there.
However, if you’re Stanley Roberts, you’re going to find several people inside the station fast asleep. And, if there is an emergency, that could be a problem.
BART police say you would get a verbal warning, then a written warning, then finally a ticket for violating the no sleeping rule.
