ALAMEDA COUNTY (KRON) — Crews were able to rescue a paddleboater under the influence of alcohol near the Bay Bridge Saturday afternoon, according to Coast Guard officials.
Officials were notified around 4:30 pm of an unconscious person in a paddle boat drifting north of the Oakland Bay Bridge.
When rescue crews arrived on scene, they determined the paddleboater to be under the influence.
The person was brought safely to shore, and was transferred to local authorities.
“This person was fortunate to have not fallen overboard and passed along his gratitude for the report from the good Samaritan who saw something out of place and reported it,” said Captain Michael Day, Sector San Francisco Deputy Commander. “All mariners should boat responsibly any time they get underway.”
Coast Guard officials remind people that the San Francisco Bay is a high traffic waterway, and mariners should boat responsibly, wear their life jackets, and keep a sharp lookout.
