WALNUT CREEK (BCN) — Illegal fireworks sparked a blaze that burned about half an acre of vegetation near the Boundary Oak Golf Course in Walnut Creek over the weekend, a fire official said today.

Crews were dispatched to the fire around 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Valley Vista Road near the golf course, Fire Marshal Robert Marshall of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said.

Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes, Marshall said.

He said the fire broke out not far from the area where a string of arson fires occurred in May and fire investigators have determined that fireworks were behind the blaze.

“It’s pretty obvious that the area is a local party spot,” he said.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
