SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A restaurant at a popular family destination in Monterey has 86’d noisy children because they are a distraction to other diners.
The Old Fisherman’s Grotto on Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey has put customers on notice via their web site and signage warning them that children who make noise or cry will not be allowed in its dining room.
Tourists on the wharf are calling the sign offensive.
Niki Rieve told KSBW that she was recently turned away from the restaurant because they would not provide her with a high chair for her 6-month-old daughter.
“Usually they cater, at least have a high chair for the child, but it seemed like they didn’t want any child. They said the child can’t make any noises so they turned us away,” Reive said.
The restaurant’s owner, Chris Shake, told KSBW that if customers don’t like the rules, they can eat elsewhere.
“If a place has the rules, that’s what the rules are,” Shake said. “You go in and abide by the rules or you find a place more suitable for you.”
