REDWOOD CITY (KRON) — A man accused of torturing and killing a puppy while his four-year old daughter watched will spend no more than three years in prison.
32-year-old Alan Benjamin Velete of Redwood City is pleading no contest to felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor child endangerment charges.
Prosecutors say Velete became enraged when the four-month old puppy named “Lucky” pooped on the floor. For weeks after that Velete punched and kicked the dog, sprayed household cleaner in its eyes, taped its mouth shut and fed it his psychiatric drugs.
Eventually he suffocated the dog, investigators say. Much of the abuse was apparently done in front of the daughter.
Under the plea deal, Velete will get no more than three years in prison when he’s sentenced.
