Swimmer Rescued from Bay Near San Mateo Bridge

SAN FRANCISCO BAY (KRON) — A distressed swimmer is now receiving treatment in San Mateo County after getting in trouble near the San Mateo Bridge.

A driver on the bridge reported seeing the person in the water on the Hayward side of the bridge early Wednesday morning.

The Coast Guard and Alameda County fire boats converged on the area and tried to locate the swimmer.

A Coast Guard helicopter eventually located the victim and used a line to lift the victim out of the water and take him or her to a hospital in San Mateo for treatment.

Authorities are still trying to figure out how the person got into the water in the first place.
