(CNN) — Two U.N. peacekeepers were killed and nine were injured in a suicide attack Saturday in northern Mali, the U.N. Mission in Mali said.
It is the third attack against MINUSMA personnel in the past week, the agency said. The U.N. mission seeks to stabilize the country against militant Islamists.
A vehicle was used in the suicide attack, which struck a MINUSMA patrol base in Ber.
“Such violence is senseless, the MINUSMA pays too much of a toll in Mali,” David Gressly, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, said in a statement. “These attacks reinforce our determination to continue our mission alongside the Malian people.”
Two U.N. peacekeepers were seriously wounded when their vehicle struck a mine on Thursday, and another peacekeeper was wounded in a separate mine incident, MINUSMA said.
