SAN JOSE (BCN) — A driver suspected in a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian in San Jose on Sunday night fled the scene in a 2001 to 2005 black or dark-colored Honda Civic that was damaged in the crash, police said today.
The right side of the Honda Civic would be missing the side view mirror and weather stripping and the right fender also would be damaged, according to police Sgt. Heather Randol.
Police are asking the public to assist them in their probe into the hit-and-run death of the victim, 51-year-old Son Hoang Nguyen, of San Jose, who was struck by the suspect car Sunday night and died at a hospital Monday, Randol said.
Officers responded at 9:51 p.m. Sunday to a report about a pedestrian hit by a vehicle in the area of Senter Road and Balfour Drive, just west of the Los Lagos Golf Course.
Police said a man later identified as Nguyen was found lying in the street. He was transported to a hospital where he died the following morning.
Nguyen may have been riding a bicycle while crossing Senter Road when the sedan struck him, according to police.
The motorist drove away from the scene and remains at large, police said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Police Department’s traffic investigations unit at (408) 277-4654 and those wishing to remain anonymous may call (408) 947-7867.
