SAUSALITO (KRON) — A popular Sausalito eatery hopes to re-open soon after it was closed because of a serious accident Tuesday morning.
The accident that happened on Bridgeway Avenue near Spring Street after a 20-year-old Marin City man allegedly fled from authorities and crashed into multiple cars and businesses in Sausalito at about 9 a.m.
Video from the scene shows damage to the windows of the restaurant. There is also damaged reported at a neighboring hair salon.
The footage shows patrons sitting outside the restaurant on the sidewalk when the vehicle struck a minivan then plowed into the crowd. One person was pinned in the wreckage.
Officials say there are injuries but none appear to be life threatening.
A deputy was attempting to stop Derrick McCann, wanted for grand theft from a person and a domestic violence incident from Monday, after he was spotted driving a Chevrolet along the 100 block of Drake Avenue, sheriff’s Lt. Scott Anderson said.
McCann did not yield to the deputy and continued driving at speeds of about 60 mph, according to Anderson.
The CHP and Marin County Sheriffs deputies say it appears McCann’s car crashed, went skidding off Bridgeway and hit the restaurant.
McCann allegedly fled on foot but was detained by people at the scene. McCann, a female passenger and 4-year-old son in his car were transported to Marin General Hospital for minor injuries, according to Anderson.
McCann was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of driving without a license, grand theft from a person, battery on a cohabitant, evading a peace officer, cruelty to a child, committing a felony while out on bail, reckless driving and obstructing or delaying a peace officer.
