UPDATE: Carjackers Who Stole Vehicle at Gunpoint on Van Ness in S.F. Still on the Loose

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A manhunt is underway for the people who carjacked a driver in a busy San Francisco intersection and then later crashed and escaped on foot.

A motorist tells police a carjacker approached the vehicle while waiting at Market and Van Ness. The criminal pulled out a gun and forced the driver to get out of the car.

Investigators say just a couple of blocks away at Van Ness and McAllister witnesses saw the carjackers throw guns, money, and drugs out the window.

Police then started chasing the stolen car into the SOMA district where the suspects hit a car at 7th and Natoma. Moments later the thieves jumped out of the vehicle and ran away near 7th and Howard.

Investigators say they returned to Van Ness and McAllister, in front of San Francisco City Hall where they recovered the guns and weapons. There’s no word on what happened to the money.

No one is in custody. There are no confirmed reports of injuries.
