SAN BERNARDINO AP) – San Bernardino police officials say an officer is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot and the suspected gunman was killed by the officer’s partner.
Chief Jarrod Burguan says the officer was fired upon before 3 a.m. Friday when he and his partner stopped to talk to a group of five or so people standing outside a home in a residential neighborhood.
Burguan says one of the men pulled out a gun and immediately opened fire as the officers approached.
The chief says one of the officers was hit twice. His partner managed to shoot the suspect during a protracted gun battle. The male suspect died at a hospital.
Burguan says the wounded officer is in “very critical” condition.
At least four people are in custody.
Two guns, a revolver and an assault rifle, were recovered.
