Man Declared Brain Dead After Being Found Stabbed Friday Night

HAYWARD (BCN) — An Oakland man has been declared brain dead after being stabbed in Hayward late Friday night, police said today.

Officers found 24-year-old Jack Maghoney at about 11:08 p.m. Friday in a greenway park near Bishop Avenue and Cascade Street, an area close to the intersection of Interstate Highway 880 and state Highway 92, after receiving a report that an unresponsive man was lying there, police said.

Officers discovered that Maghoney had suffered two stab wounds and some facial abrasions but it was initially determined that his injuries weren’t life-threatening, according to police.

Maghoney was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley to be treated for the stab wounds and brain hemorrhaging and at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, doctors diagnosed him as being brain dead, police said.

However, Maghoney is still on life support because he is an organ donor, according to police.

Hayward police said their investigation into the case is still active and they would like to talk to anyone who has information about it.
