Shelter-In-Place Lifted After Hazardous Materials Release In Hayward

HAYWARD (KRON) — A shelter-in-place order has been lifted after crews cleared the scene of a Hazmat situation in an industrial area of Hayward.

The incident was reported at around 1:45 p.m. at 3130 Depot Road, according to county fire officials.

Public records show that the company Contractors Chemical Inc. is listed at this location.

Officials said that personnel at the warehouse had been mixing small batches of unknown chemicals. A large chemical reaction occurred which created a hazardous gas leak after staff began mixing bigger batches of the chemicals.

No injuries were reported.

Residents and businesses within a one-mile radius of the location were ordered to stay indoors and keep all windows and doors closed. The order has since been lifted.
