PITTSBURG (KRON) — BART officials are expecting normal service on the Pittsburg/Bay Point line near the Pleasant Hill station this morning, a spokesperson said.
The BART Operations Control Center reported at 3:20 a.m. that enough repairs have been made to allow for full service after an equipment malfunction occurred on Tuesday evening, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.
A train was taken out of service at Pleasant Hill at around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday due to damage on the track and third rail at an interlocking. Crews checked out the damage and for safety determined both tracks should be taken out of service until inspection and repairs.
Initial reports say that a wheel may have separated from a train and possibly damaged the track.
No further details on what happened to cause the damage to the track or train is immediately available, according to Trost.
Track and train experts will need to do a complete assessment and investigation to determine the cause.
