POCATELLO, Idaho (KRON) — Police haven’t decided if they will file criminal charges against an Idaho State University professor who accidentally shot himself in the foot while teaching a class.
The instructor was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
Police say the gun was apparently in the man’s pocket while he taught the class and it accidentally went off. Investigators say the man did have an enhanced concealed carry permit.
The shooting comes at the start of the first school year after Idaho lawmakers voted to allow people with permits to carry weapons on university campuses. The school’s president calls the incident “scary and embarrassing.”
No one else was hurt in the shooting.
It’s illegal to discharge a firearms in the Pocatello city limits but it will be up to prosecutors to decide if charges should be brought.
