Trails And Campgrounds closed In Yosemite National Park

YOSEMITE (KRON) –  Hikers on and around Half Dome and Campers in Little Yosemite Valley were evacuated because of the 700-acre Meadow Fire, Park Ranger Kari Cobb said. Officials do not now the cause of the fire.

Rangers say the fire started around noon today in Yosemite’s backcountry Wilderness.

As of  7 p.m.  here are the trails that have been closed:

  • Trails leading to and around Half Dome
  • Trails leading to Nevada Fall and Merced Lake
  • Trails between Sunrise Trailhead and Sunrise lakes, also Sunrise Lakes High Sierra Camp
  • The rail along Merced River, east of Little Yosemite Valley

 

Ranger Cobb said 100 hikers have had to be airlifted out of the area around Half Dome and Little Yosemite Valley

As many as 7 helicopters and 3 aircraft are being used to battle the fire. Cobb said crews plan on fighting the fire through the night.
