SANTA CLARA (KRON)–Police in Santa Clara are warning residents to take caution while wearing jewelry in public, especially gold necklaces, due to multiple strong-arm robberies in September.

Police say the robberies happened near Bing Drive at Homestead Road, El Camino Real at Lawrence Expressway and Monroe Street at Los Padres Boulevard.

In each case the suspect or suspects targeted people of Asian-Indian decent with a visible gold chain around their necks. The suspect either grabbed the jewerly and took off or brandished a black handgun and demanded the jewelry and wallet.

Police say the suspect in each case is described as a black adult male, about 19-24 years old and 5’9″ to 6 feet tall.

Investigators say no one has been hurt yet in the robberies but the experience can be traumatic. They advise residents to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious persons or behavior in those areas.
