SUEZ CANAL (KRON) — There are no reports of injuries after two container ships collided Monday on the north end of the Suez Canal.
Video that is going viral shows people shouting while the German-flagged MV Colombo Express and the Singaporean-flagged MV Maersk Tanjong came together at the mouth of the canal which connects the Mediterrainian with the Red Sea. It’s the primary trading route between Europe and Asia.
The force of the collision knocked three containers from the Colombo Express into the water. The German ship also sustained a 65-foot dent in the left side of the vessel.
The accident has caused a huge traffic jam in the Suez as authorities fish the containers out of the water and conduct an investigation into who is to blame.
