Man Arrested for Slashing Woman’s Throat with Glass Bottle

SAN FRANCISCO — Police arrested a man after he allegedly used a broken glass bottle to slash the throat of a 25-year-old woman in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood last week, a police sergeant said today.

At about 6:30 a.m. Friday, police responded to the first block of Dakota Street near 23rd Street and found medics treating a woman with a neck wound lying on the sidewalk, San Francisco police Sgt. Monica MacDonald said.

A witness alerted police that the suspect was still inside a nearby residence.

Officers located and arrested the suspect, identified as 30-year-old San Francisco resident Tanrence Owens, on suspicion of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and battery causing serious bodily injury,
MacDonald said.

Police have not been able to interview the victim due to the severity of her injuries, according to the sergeant.

The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
