GILROY (KRON) — A giant pallet fire at a storage building in Gilroy is producing so much heat it can be detected from space.
The National Weather Service tweeted a photo showing satellites detecting the heat signature from the fire located where Crews Road dead-ends into Ferguson east of the city and north of Highway 152. Ferguson Road is shut down at Dunlap Avenue.
Firefighters say there is no water available at the scene so they’re filling up in town. As many as 20 families were evacuated

Pictures from our helicopter partners at ABC7News show thousands of wooden pallets consumed by flames.
It’s too soon to tell the cause of the fire.
