CONCORD (BCN)–A Concord elementary school was briefly placed on lockdown this morning as police searched for a man who fled from a stolen vehicle. The incident was initially reported at 9:21 a.m. as a suspicious vehicle in the area of Olive Drive and Berrywood Court, according to police.
A male associated with the vehicle fled after being contacted by police, while a female remained inside the car, police said. The male suspect fled into a residential yard and then the playground area of Silverwood Elementary at 1649 Claycord Ave., prompting a lockdown of the campus, according to police.
Officers did a yard-to-yard search of homes on Olive Drive and found the suspect hiding in a backyard, where he surrendered to a police K-9 unit. The female was also taken into custody and the school lockdown was lifted at 10:25 a.m., police said.
The suspicious vehicle was determined to be stolen and the male suspect’s identity was confirmed. Along with being wanted for the stolen car, he was also wanted for various outstanding warrants, police said.
The names of the two suspects were not immediately being released by police.
