VIDEO: Lane Closures to Prepare for Golden Gate Bridge Movable Barrier

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE (KRON) — Golden Gate Bridge officials are getting ready for January’s installation of a movable barrier to separate oncoming traffic with several lane closures over the weekend.

Major closures are planned starting January 10th for the final installation of the barrier designed to prevent head-on wrecks.

This weekend’s closures are expected to cause serious traffic delays. Regular drivers on the bridge know often the worst congestion happens on weekends when tourists and visitors to the North Bay and Wine Country cross the span.

Here’s a look at the planned closures:

  • Southbound Highway 101

    • 7:00pm on Friday, November 7 until 1:00pm on Saturday, November 8 – The two (2) inside southbound lanes will be CLOSED. Two (2) southbound lanes will remain open.
    • 1:00pm to 8:00pm on Saturday, November 8 – One (1) inside southbound lane will be CLOSED. Three (3) southbound lanes will remain open.
    • 8:00pm on Saturday, November 8 to 8:00am on Sunday, November 9 – The two (2) inside southbound lanes will be CLOSED. Two (2) southbound lanes will remain open.
    • After 8:00am on Sunday, November 9 – All southbound lanes should be open.
  • Northbound Highway 101

    • 8:00pm on Friday, November 7 to 8:00am on Saturday, November 8 – The two (2) inside northbound lanes will be CLOSED. Two (2) northbound lanes will remain open.
    • 8:00am on Saturday, November 8 to 8:00am on Sunday, November 9 – One (1) inside northbound lane will be CLOSED. Three (3) northbound lanes will remain open.
