Broken Water Lines, Sewage Create Sinkhole in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Public Utilities Commission crews and firefighters are responding to a sinkhole in San Francisco Wednesday morning.

Officials say the sinkhole was reported at 9:17 a.m. at Sixth and Lake streets.

Police say it’s likely that a water main bursted underneath the area before a woman’s tire punched a small whole causing the sinkhole.

The sinkhole is about 8 by 10 feet wide, but continues to expand posing a concern for authorities.

There were reports of a sinkhole on the Bay Bridge this morning as well, but a California Highway Patrol officer said it was just a pothole and has already been repaired.
