SONOMA (KRON) — Residents in low-lying areas near the Russian River are being advised to evacuate in advance of expected flooding.
According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, charts are projecting that the river levels will rise from 6 feet above sea level up to 37.9 feet above sea level on Friday, a difference more than 30 feet in 24 hours.
The most recent forecasts from the California Nevada River Forecast Center indicates that the peak of Russian River flooding will occur at 10 a.m. Friday, county officials said.
The voluntary evacuation order affects residents in low-lying communities including Guerneville and Monte Rio.
