SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The Golden Gate National Recreation Area said that hazardous conditions has prompted closures for some its sites effective the next 48 hours.
Due to heavy rain, high winds, and hazardous surf conditions, the National Park Service has announced the closure of Alcatraz Island. Other park sites are likely to be closed depending on how conditions develop.
San Francisco County park sites include Fort Point, Fort Funston, Baker Beach and China Beach. Marin County park sites that are likely to be closed include Muir Woods, Muir Beach, and Stinson Beach.
“Given the forecast for high surf with the possibility of strong rip currents and sleeper waves, visitors are encouraged to exercise extreme caution on all park beaches, and never to turn their backs to the waves,” said the GGNRA on its website.
The GGNRA is advising the public to avoid forested areas of the parks due to the risk of falling trees.
“Visitors should exercise extreme caution around creeks and streams in the park, which may be flooded. Driving conditions on park roads are also expected to be hazardous,” the GGNRA said.
