SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS (KRON) — The CHP has re-opened all lanes of Highway 17 for after clearing a downed tree that knocked out some power lines.
The accident happened just before 4:00 a.m. The lanes were re-opened about three hours later.
Originally all traffic was held northbound at Sugar Loaf and southbound at the summit. Hundreds of big rigs were caught in the back up.
PG&E crews originally had trouble getting to the scene but managed to turn off the power and remove the electrical lines from the roadway.
Traffic remains a mess for people traveling between Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley.
