SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A hacker group is claiming responsibility for disappointing many people who got video game consoles for Christmas.
The group, known as “Lizard Squad” says it’s responsible for bringing down both the Playstation Network and the XBox Live on Christmas morning.
Both Microsoft and Sony confirmed the dedicated denial of service attacks on the servers for their game systems.
“10,00RTS and we will stop smacking #Xbox and #PSN offline,” the group tweeted first thing Christmas morning.
By mid-afternoon the tweet had more than 18,000 re-tweets.
Playstation said it was still looking into the problem.
XBox Support offered similar advice.
Many Playstation and XBox users were expressing anger and disappointment all day at not being able to try out the new systems they got for the holidays.
