SOCIAL MEDIA: Hundreds March on Fruitvale BART Station for MLK Holiday

OAKLAND (KRON) — Overhead images from our helicopter partners at ABC7News show a crowd of about 1,000 demonstrators leaving the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland this afternoon, police said.

Protesters gathered at the station for a #BlackLivesMatter rally that had been planned for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, an advocate for civil rights. The demonstrations are taking place following nationwide protests against police shootings of unarmed black people.

Fruitvale Station is most famous as the location where unarmed passenger Oscar Grant was shot and killed by BART police officer Johannes Mehserle.
