OAKLAND (KRON) — Crossing busy Park Blvd in the Oakland Hills can be a challenge because of the speed of cars heading down the road.
In his “My KRON 4 Story” neighbor Hugh Morrison says trying to get from one side of Park to the other using the marked pedestrian crosswalk is a challenge.
“We have close calls daily and accidents that happen, both between cars, between cars and trees, and more dangerously between cars and pedestrians,” Morrison tells KRON 4’s Haaziq Madyun.
The worst problems appear to be on Park near Trestle Glen. That’s where a pedestrian was struck not long ago.
Haaziq notes that drivers have three quarters of a mile of steep winding downhill roadway to navigate with the crosswalk and two school along the route before hitting another signal light.
Oakland city councilman Noel Gallo says the police department should bring back the traffic division. He says it’s up to his fellow councilmembers to use Measure BB money to help keep everyone safe on this dangerous stretch of road.
