OAKLAND — A man suspected of assaulting his wife was arrested in Oakland Saturday morning after a standoff that lasted nearly 10 hours, a police spokeswoman said.
Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a report from a woman who said her husband violently assaulted her with a blunt object and held against her will at a home in the 4100 block of West Street.
The woman also reported that her children ages 2 to 13 were also in the home.
Officers arrived to the scene and worked to convince the suspect to surrender.
The Police Department’s tactical team also responded to the scene and entered the home around 8 a.m. Inside they found the suspect and arrested him.
The woman and children were found safe inside the home.
Information on the suspect’s identity was not available this morning.
